. Committees Main Street Milton welcomes and encourages you to participate in any committee or activity you wish to support. Please read below to find out more about us, or contact us at manager@MainStreetMilton.org or by phone at (850) 626-6246. What is a "Main Street" Organization? The Main Street "Four-Point Approach" is a community driven, comprehensive methodology used to revitalize older, traditional business districts throughout the United States. It is a common sense way to address the variety of issues and problems that face traditional business districts. The Main Street Approach advocates a return to community self reliance, local empowerment, and the rebuilding of traditional commercial districts based on their unique assets; distinctive architecture, a pedestrian friendly environment, personal service, local ownership, and a sense of community.
Who is Main Street Milton? Main Street Milton was created in 2001 to revitalize, promote and improve economic development within the downtown area (click here for a program area map). Governed by a board of directors and one paid employee (program manager), Main Street Milton has more than 40 volunteers, and 85 members including a diverse group of businesses and individuals. . Main Street Milton Vision: Preserving the unique historical character of downtown Milton, while working to return downtown Milton's historic commercial district to an active, lively community center with a strong economic base.
Main Street Milton Mission: To restore and preserve the historic identity of downtown Milton and to enhance social and commerce activity in the downtown by weaving a thread of consistency through community education, historic preservation and renovation, combating deterioration, and promoting beautification; To promote historic downtown Milton as a vital center of commerce and culture reflecting a "people friendly" environment; To enhance civic pride and restore and maintain downtown Milton as the "heart" of the community.
Who can participate? Anyone interested in Downtown Milton revitalization efforts can participate. There is no fee and everyone is welcome. Main Street Milton works through four committees to further its goals and objectives of revitalization. Those committees conduct monthly meetings separate from regular meetings of the Board of Directors but make recommendations to the Board of Directors for decisions. .
